Introduction of RU-CORE

Climate knowledge for regional resilience

Ramkhamhaeng University Center of Regional Climate Change and Renewable Energy (RU-CORE) is a collaboration between the Thailand Research Fund (TRF) and Ramkhamhaeng University (RU). The center aims to become a center of excellence in global climate model downscaling and in providing climate information for users at different levels to help manage risks arising from a changing climate.

RU-CORE develops research capacity, specialist knowledge and the scientific foundations required to support climate research and practical climate services.

Our responsibilities

The major roles of RU-CORE

  • Downscale global climate models using both statistical and dynamical approaches.
  • Establish a data service center that provides climate information to national and regional researchers.
  • Develop climate-modeling research collaboration with researchers in Asia, Southeast Asia and Thailand.
  • Develop training modules on climate modeling and its application to climate-change impact and adaptation assessments for government officers.
  • Develop graduate curricula on climate change.

Climate information services for Southeast Asia

Climate information for society

Southeast Asia Regional Climate Change Information System (SARCCIS)

  • SARCCIS serves as a one-stop data center that freely disseminates high-resolution, multi-model and multi-scenario simulated data; provides guidance on data usage, reliability and uncertainty; and trains users to access, analyze and interpret the data.
  • SARCCIS is a product of the Southeast Asia Regional Climate Downscaling (SEACLID) / Coordinated Regional Climate Downscaling Experiment (CORDEX) Southeast Asia Project.
  • Model-simulated data in SARCCIS is archived as part of the Earth System Grid Federation (ESGF) peer-to-peer enterprise system.
  • SARCCIS is envisioned to archive bias-corrected model data, statistical downscaling data, observations and regional climate-impact information.
  • SARCCIS champions climate services in the Southeast Asia region.
